Next we will see the toxics that we can find in oil and we will talk about the most important ones.

What is bioaccumulation?

?
In toxicology, bioaccumulation is the process of accumulation of chemicals in living organisms so that they reach higher concentrations than the concentrations in their environment or in food.

These are just some of the 368 toxicants that any EVOO may contain.

Most important toxins that the oil may contain

.

  • Glyphosate: Glyphosate is a broad spectrum herbicide, developed for the elimination of weeds and shrubs, especially perennials. It is absorbed by the leaves and not by the roots. It can be applied to leaves, injected into trunks and stems, or sprayed on stumps as a forest herbicide.
  • Dimethoate: Dimethoate is a widely used organophosphate insecticide and acaricide.
  • Chlorpyrifos: Chlorpyrifos is a crystalline organophosphorus insecticide that inhibits acetylcholinesterase causing poisoning by collapse of the insect’s nervous system.
  • Biphenyl: Biphenyl is a colourless to light yellow crystalline solid organic compound. It has a very pleasant aroma.
  • Bisphenol A (BPA): A chemical used in the manufacture of plastics and resins. BPA is used in polycarbonate, a high-performance clear rigid plastic, used to make food containers, such as bottles, plates and cups.

Toxics in oil

Other important toxins the oil may contain

.

  • Trichloronate: It is an OPs insecticide useful in agricultural development and the elimination of domestic pests.
  • Oxamyl: Oxamyl is a chemical used as a pesticide that comes in two forms: granular and liquid.
  • Oxamyl: Oxamyl is a chemical used as a pesticide that comes in two forms: granular and liquid.
  • Nitrophene: A colorless, odorless, inert gas, it makes up four-fifths of the volume of air in the atmosphere and is used to synthesize ammonia and other products, to make explosives, as a refrigerant, and as an inert atmosphere for preserving certain products.
  • Imazalil: Also called enilconazole, it is a fungicide widely used in agriculture, particularly in citrus cultivation
  • .

  • Propoxur: A non-systemic carbamate insecticide introduced in 1959 with rapid kill and long residual effect used against pests and fleas in turf, forestry and household
  • .

  • Rotenone: Rotenone is a substance of plant origin formerly used as an insecticide, it is classified as an environmental toxin
  • .

  • Ethion: Pure ethion is a colourless to yellowish liquid with a sulphur-like odour.
  • Ethion: Pure ethion is a colourless to yellowish liquid with a sulphur-like odour.
  • Monuron: A broad-spectrum antibiotic, synthesized by some species of streptomyces.
  • Fonofos: An organothiophosphate insecticide mainly used on maize. It is highly toxic and is listed as an extremely hazardous substance.
  • Fonofos: It is an organothiophosphate insecticide.
  • Simazine: Simazine is a herbicide of the triazine class. The compound is used to control broadleaf weeds and annual grasses.
  • Phosmet: A non-systemic organophosphate insecticide derived from phthalimide for use on plants and animals.
  • Cyfluthrin: It is a synthetic pyrethroid that is used as an insecticide. It is a complex organic compound and the commercial product is sold as a mixture of its isomers.

We have already seen and named all the toxicants in oil that exist.

Every agricultural product may contain them, because their use is or has been legal.

Toxics EVOO

At La Verea Andaluza we can guarantee that none of these toxic products are present because they have not been used in the olive grove during the EVOO production process.

Organic EVOOs there are many, however, the ONLY one that does not use chemicals is La Verea Andaluza. Our Oil is certified by indlab.
